Sara is an HCI Assistant Professor in the School of Computing, cross-affiliated with the Cultural Studies Department at Queen’s University and Director of the iStudio Lab. She received the PhD from Newcastle University (UK) before a postdoctoral fellowship at Carleton University (Canada). Highlights of her awards are: the Best Design Award at the Fab Island Competition (Indonesia, 2022) in Design, the Mentorship Inspiring Woman Award (Ban Righ F., 2023) in Supervision, and the Early Career Researcher Award from the Canadian HCI Society (Quebec, 2022) in Research.

Lee is a postdoctoral fellow with the iStudio. Before joining the lab, she did her PhD at the Creative Interactions Lab at Carleton University, where her thesis focused on e-textiles, hybrid craft, and textile personal fabrication. In her research she develops DIY toolkits so individuals can design and create interactive soft technologies to suit their own needs. She also loves running community e-textile workshops at art galleries and makerspaces, and creating interactive participatory artworks. More on her page: LeeJones.ca

Pouya is a PhD Student at the iStudio, Queen’s School of Computing. He also finished his MSc at the iStudio, Queen’s School of Computing in 2022. After that, he gained 2 years of experience at the Onaki FabLab where he worked at the intersection of engaging with Indigenous communities and digital fabrication technology. In his Masters, he was exploring in-car experiences through the integration of physical interactions using e-textiles.

Em Harmsen is a PhD student in the Cultural Studies department at the iStudio, Queen’s University. Em has an undergraduate degree in Fashion Design and a Masters degree focused on inclusive and accessible design. Em is passionate about responsible and inclusive design practices. Em’s PhD work will branch off of the work she currently does in her design studio (emske.ca).

Aesun is an artist from South Korea, interested in E-textiles and Wearable Computing. She studied Digital Arts in Seoul Institute of The Arts and completed her MA at the University of Art and Design Linz (Austria). At iStudio, Aesun is exploring new e-textile fabrication and prototyping techniques.

Jung-Ah is an interdisciplinary researcher/artist and a PhD candidate in Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies at Queen’s University. She received her MFA in Documentary Media from Northwestern University (2019) in Chicago. Her research centres on investigating her relationship with a discovered Korean traditional tapestries in Canada.
